Basel Social Club returns for its fifth edition from 14-20 June 2026, transforming a vacant office building into a temporary social stage for art.
For this edition, KRONE COURONNE proposes:
RELAX (chiarenza & hauser & co)’s you pay but you don’t agree with the price is a paper cup (2000-2026), the kind found in bars and at openings. The cup infiltrates Basel Social Club to be used and discarded, not a commodity but a vehicle for thought – a disposable object in a disposable economy. First realised at Capp Street Project in San Francisco in 1994 as an unlimited edition, the ever-present yet invisible work points to the discrepancy between price and value.
Additionally, two silkscreen prints reappropriate corporate terms, exposing the logic through which human labour is measured and assigned value. The work points to the fragile boundary between value and disposability, reflecting on systems in which labour is continuously subject to evaluation and exploitation, and often rendered invisible.
Leolie Greet’s video work a sequel seeping nearby (2025) evokes generic office environments, standardised and functional, within which droplets discreetly appear, like a continuous fluid, or a sign of life and mutation. Almost theatrical, the droplets emit an animistic atmosphere in which emotions pass through matter. The rational order of the workspace becomes the stage for a slow, poetic, and sensorial contamination. Greet composes an ecosystem of elements, questioning not only the ways we write the world, but also how we position ourselves in relation to different systems of thought and classification. Here, the fluid speaks and becomes the narrator of a porous story, where everything – even the most banal – starts to sweat.
- About:
RELAX (chiarenza & hauser & co) is a Zurich-based collective composed of Marie-Antoinette Chiarenza [1957 Tunis] and Daniel Hauser [1959 Bern] working together since 1983. The ''& co'' in their name refers to collaborations with others, sometimes within the artworks, other times just involved in the process. Neo-conceptual, RELAX uses humour to explore questions of value, wealth, production, work, ownership, or gender equality in society. relax-studios.ch
Through objects and installations, Leolie Greet (1995 Biel/Bienne) scripts narratives based on visual and linguistic associations. In her most recent work, Greet explores a world in constant transformation. By repurposing everyday objects, she creates a body of work that expands the storytelling potential of the ordinary. leoliegreet.ch
